The capital of Idaho is Boise, with a history that is truly remarkable. It was found on the plains of the Rocky Mountains with a river flowing right through the center of the city. Boise got its start during the gold rush days in the 1800's. It started as a fort by English fur traders but due to frequent raids by Indians, the place was abandoned. Gold was discovered in 1862 so now there was a reason to build another fort so to people would have some sort of protection from the Indians. After the gold rush, the populations declined so work began to bring them back and then some. The state capital building was finished in 1886 and in 1890 Idaho became a state.

Most people think of Idaho as the potato state. But there is more to it then Spuds, my dear. It covers two time zones (bother) and goes from Canada to Nevada. The state of Idaho is much bigger than folks realize. There are rivers, pure green hillsides, timber-lined mountains, and lakes too numerous to mention with loads of enriched farmland and stately homes.

In 1890, Idaho became the 43rd state with the official flag being accepted in 1907. The colors are deep blue with the seal of the state centered then surrounded by a yellow band. There is a miner carrying a pick and a woman carrying the scales of justice. The state motto is embossed on the flag along with two yellow cornucopias and an elk head. There is a sheaf of grain, deep green grass, and a beautiful blue sky.

One of the most popular sights is the Yellowstone National Park located in the lovely state of Idaho. This is a natural wonder filled with sights and sounds never seen before. Mt. St. Helens is located here and still erupts today. There is the old geyser, Old faithful that still awes tourists. Residents never tire seeing the beauty and culture found in the state of Idaho.
